The 2023 Keuka College Women’s Volleyball season ended on Saturday just short of the ultimate goal.
Playing before a boisterous home crowd at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center, the Wolves came up short in their quest for the Empire 8 Championship, falling to Alfred University in four sets.
It was a nail-biter all the way. After splitting the first two sets, the Wolves dropped the final two sets by two and three points respectively.
The final line saw fifth-seeded Alfred edging the third-seeded Wolves, 25-16, 20-25, 26-24, 25-22. That the match was so close should not have been surprising. The two teams have now faced off on the volleyball court 57 times over the years, with Keuka College winning 29 of those contests and Alfred, 28.
Saturday’s match marked the first Empire 8 Conference championship game for any Wolves team since Keuka College joined the conference in the fall of 2020. It was the College Athletics program’s seventh conference championship game overall.
The Women’s Volleyball team finishes a season marked by tenacity and team spirit with a 20-7 record (6-2 in the Empire 8 Conference).
