Types of Financial Aid
Scholarships
Scholarships are awarded to full-time freshmen and transfer students upon admission to the College. Scholarships do not need to be repaid.
Grants
Keuka College, state, and federal grants may also be available to help offset your cost of attendance. When you apply for admission and financial aid, the Office of Financial Aid will automatically include all grants you're eligible for. Grants are based on your family's financial need, and they do not need to be repaid.
Grant Program | Details | Annual Amount |
---|---|---|
KC Grant | For students who demonstrate financial need beyond federal and state assistance. | Varies |
Federal Pell Grant | Based on need. | Up to $7,395 |
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) | For undergraduates with exceptional financial need; Federal Pell Grant recipients take priority. | Up to $4,000 |

Loans
Many low-interest loan options are available for Keuka College students and their families. Borrowed funds may be used to cover educational expenses such as tuition, fees, room and board, books, and more. When you apply for financial aid, loans may make up part of your financial aid package.
Federal Loans
Federal Direct loans are guaranteed to all students who attend Keuka College at least half time. Federal loans have a fixed, low interest rate and deferred payments while you're still in school. Depending upon your family financial need, the government may subsidize the interest on your loan while you're in school, during a six-month grace period immediately preceding repayment, and during authorized deferment.
The Federal Student Aid website has the most recent information regarding loans, including current interest rates.
Additional Loan Options
Direct PLUS Loans
Parents of dependent students can take out loans to supplement the student’s financial aid package. Direct PLUS loans have a fixed interest rate and fees (published each year by the U.S. Department of Education) and the option to defer payments until six months after the student graduates or drops to less than half-time enrollment. During deferment, all interest is accrued and then capitalized upon repayment. Once repayment begins, there is a 10-year repayment term.
Eligibility for the Direct PLUS loan depends on a modest credit check that determines whether the parent has an adverse credit history.
Alternative Loans
Alternative education loans can help bridge the gap between the actual cost of your education and other sources of aid. Alternative loans are offered by private lenders; eligibility for alternative student loans often depends on your credit score and/or your co-signer’s credit score.
Alternative loans may cost more than the education loans offered by the federal government, and they do not offer the same repayment and forgiveness options. You should exhaust your eligibility for federal student loans before applying for alternative student loans.
Work-Study Student Employment
Student employment provides an opportunity for you to practice and learn valuable work-related skills and, at the same time, helps you meet educational and personal expenses while at Keuka College.
Other Sources of Financial Aid
Many students find outside scholarships (meaning they're not awarded by Keuka College) to help them cover the cost of their college education. While the College generally doesn't provide assistance in locating these funding sources, here are a few places you may wish to consider checking:
- Employer: Some employers will provide scholarships to their employees who are attending college. Talk with your manager or human resources department to see if this is something available to you. Wegmans, Taco Bell, Walmart, and Target are among the regional employers who may offer scholarships to employees who are entering college for the first time.
- School: Your high school or school district may offer scholarship programs to graduating seniors. Talk with a teacher, guidance counselor, or principal to see what, if any, programs are available at your school.
- Church and Faith Communities: Many religious organizations and communities offer scholarships. Talk with your pastor or religious leader to see if there are opportunities available to you.
- Community Groups: Community groups such as the Rotary, Lions, Elks, and Moose clubs often offer scholarships to college-bound seniors in their neighborhoods. Look online to find a chapter leader near you.
- Military: If you or your parents have ever served in the U.S. military, you may be eligible for GI Bill® benefits. GI Bill® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). More information about education benefits offered by VA is available at the official U.S. government Web site.
Excelsior Scholarship Comparison
"Free tuition" at state schools doesn’t come without costs. And even though Keuka College is private, that doesn't mean a state school will be less expensive for you, even if you're eligible for the Excelsior Scholarship.
