Keuka College will commemorate Constitution Day by hosting a public presentation on an amendment that has been prevalent in the news recently.
Professor of History Dr. Christopher Leahy, a nationally recognized expert on the U.S. presidency and 18th- and 19th-century American politics, will present “Presidential Disability: What Happens Next?: A Look at the 25th Amendment.”
The lecture will take place on Tuesday, September 17, at 4 p.m. in the College’s Norton Chapel.
The 25th Amendment outlines the processes for presidential succession under several scenarios, including the determination by senior department officials that the president is unable to carry out his or her duties.
Dr. Leahy is the author of the presidential biography “President without a Party: The Life of John Tyler” (2020). He has also delivered presentations hosted by C-SPAN, the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library, and the popular American POTUS podcast.
Created in 2004, Constitution Day, later named Constitution Day and Citizenship Day, is typically observed each September 17, the day in 1787 that delegates to the Constitutional Convention signed the document in Philadelphia.
