Keuka College President Dr. Jorge L. Díaz-Herrera requested Board of Trustees approval to retire effective July 1, citing a death in his immediate family earlier this month. The Board approved his request.
“‘Family first’ has always been the mantra at Keuka College. I have made the difficult decision to retire as president so that I can provide the help and support my daughter and young grandsons need in this time of tragedy,” he said.
The Board of Trustees has appointed Amy Storey, vice president for advancement and external affairs, as interim president effective July 1. Alan Ziegler, chair of the Board of Trustees, said Storey’s appointment would guarantee a seamless transition and ensure the College’s upward momentum isn’t lost.
“Amy brings to this role a deep understanding of the College’s strengths and opportunities, as well as strong, collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, trustees, and other college leaders,” Mr. Ziegler said. “Her positive impact on Keuka College cannot be overstated, and I am confident she will provide the College with extraordinary leadership during this time of transition.”
Ms. Storey joined the College early during President Díaz-Herrera’s administration as the College’s chief advancement officer. She currently provides leadership over a number of administrative functions, including development, marketing and communications, alumni relations, community relations, college-wide events, conference services, facilities, and dining. In addition, she’s the executive liaison for the College’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
“I’m humbled and honored to serve as this great college’s interim president. I recognize that this temporary appointment carries with it a solemn obligation to our students, faculty, staff, trustees, and alumni to inspire confidence, to build bridges, and to protect and enhance our vibrancy at home and abroad,” she said. “By working together, we will ensure that we do not lose momentum. We will not fall back and accept mediocrity, nor will we put aside our thirst for the innovation that will help us shape exemplary citizens and leaders to serve the nation and the world.”
Since her arrival, Ms. Storey led a brand and visual identity overhaul that contributed to three of the largest incoming classes in Keuka College’s history, launched The Next 125: The Comprehensive Campaign for Keuka College, and helped secure more than $22 million in cash, commitments, and grants in support of the College.
Previous to her arrival at Keuka College, Ms. Storey held positions at the University of Rochester, Binghamton University, Merrill Lynch, Employee Benefit Services, and Manning and Napier.
