Two national publications have again named Keuka College among noteworthy institutions when it comes to general excellence, the success of its graduates, and the value of the education it provides.
U.S. News & World Report included the College in its 2022-23 list of the 175 best colleges and universities in the North region, which includes New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Connecticut, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Maine.
Now in its 38th year, the U.S News & World Report rankings evaluate more than 1,450 colleges and universities on up to 17 measures of academic quality.
The magazine also cited the College on its national list of best Nursing programs and ranked it No. 86 in the region among its 175 Top Performers for Social Mobility. The magazine said the College was among those that “are more successful than others at advancing social mobility by enrolling and graduating large proportions of disadvantaged students awarded with Pell Grants.”
Federal Pell Grants are available to students from households earning less than $50,000 a year but overwhelmingly go to students from families earning less than $20,000 a year.
“Roughly a third of our new students are Pell-eligible,” said Keuka College Vice President for Enrollment Management & Marketing Pete Bekisz. “Keuka College continues to augment and expand the types of support services that ensure successful outcomes for those students, including financial literacy, first-year college transition programs, and the new Center for Experiential Learning and Career Engagement.”
Keuka College is regularly cited for the social mobility of its graduates. U.S. News & World Report has included the College in its rankings for the past two years and the New York Times, in 2017, ranked the College in the top 10% nationally for the economic mobility of its graduates. That measure, according to the Times, reflected the likelihood that a Keuka College graduate would move up between 20% and 40% in income brackets.
The College’s success in improving the lives of graduates has also been cited by a second publication. In its September/October 2022 issue, Washington Monthly included Keuka College on its 2022 list of Best Bang for the Buck Colleges.
The magazine, which said it ranked colleges and universities “according to how well they help non-wealthy students attain marketable degrees at affordable prices,” placed the College among the top half of nearly 400 colleges and universities in its Northeast region.
